What is myGov and why I need one

myGov and my super

4 minute read

Did you know that recent changes by the Australian Tax Office (ATO) means that you can now see all of your superannuation funds on the ATO section of your myGov account?

What is myGov?

Think of myGov as a simple and secure way to access Australian government services online with 1 login and 1 password. It helps with a range of government services (see below). It’s also a convenient way to manage your super, allowing you to:

  1. check your super balance
  2. see the amounts your employer contributes to your super
  3. search for lost super and consolidate multiple accounts
  4. access your group tax certificate

If you haven’t already, create a myGov account and link it to the Australian Tax Office. Once linked, you’ll be able to view all your super accounts in one place, sparing you from having to chase up individual super funds to inquire about your money.

myGov helps track your super

Make sure you have your GuildSuper fund membership and Australian Tax File numbers handy as you will need to make sure that they are linked to your myGov account.

Once you are all set up you’ll be able to track your super fund total and check that your employer is making the correct super contributions to your account, (amongst many other things)..

Note: information about your super account will not report in real time, but the details are updated regularly.

How do I get a myGov account?

All you need to do is go to the website and click ‘create an account’. You’ll need to include information like your email, phone number and address. If you need help setting up your myGov account, check out their help page here.
